Recipe for Success: Integrating Academics and Nutrition

Welcome to the California Department of Education (CDE) Nutrition Services Division Recipe for Success: Integrating Academics and Nutrition online course.

By completing this interactive module, you will learn:
   
  • How to use children's books with healthy themes to support nutrition competencies, mathematics, and science skills;
  • Literature-based activities including how to classify and categorize various foods;
  • How to compare and contrast nutritional food values, using fractions and measurements in food recipes; and
  • How to integrate nutrition into multiple subject areas, such as literacy, math, and science.
    The course references a variety of resources. Prior to beginning the course, please have ready the following handout for a specific training activity:

       
    • Integrating Science and Nutrition Education: Vitamin C Comparison Experiment
    This course takes approximately 30 minutes to complete. Please allow enough time to complete the course in one sitting. After completing the course, you will take a short quiz followed by a course evaluation. You will then have access to a printable course Certificate of Completion for your records.
